It is my please to share about well-known Indian
environmentalist from the state of Karnatak Salumarda Thimmakka is a native of
Hulikal village in the Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district in Bangluru. She
received no formal education and worked as a casual laborer in native. She was
married to Chikkaiah who was a cattle herder but they unfortunately could have
no children. It is said that Thimmakka started to plant banyan trees the
saplings were planted mostly during monsoon season so that sufficient rain
water would be available for them to grow in lieu of children.
Thimmakka has planted 500 banyan trees from
Hulikallu to Kuduru 6km sides of the road which made her know as a salumarada
Thimmakka, she received prestige’s awards from the state and central government
and other organization Nadoja Award By Hampi University- 2010,National
Citizen's award – 1995,Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshamitra Awards - 1997 (Vrikshamitra="friend
of trees")Veerachakra Prashasthi Award – 1997. Now she is 80 year old
still she is planting trees and nurturing the saplings and attending the social
gatherings and guiding students, she is living in a small home with her adopted
son full happily her live is inspiring to youth.
